80% of the construction work of Wadi Al Arashi dam located in the Wilayat of Yanqul, Al Dhahirah Governorate has been completed, Times of Oman reports.
Oman News Agency (ONA) said that the construction work of Wadi Al Arashi dam in the Wilayat of Yanqul reached 80%, implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries, and Water Resources, along with civilian and community efforts. Solid materials will be installed to ensure the strength of the dam is optimal.
“This dam aims to reduce water scarcity in the region due to the divergence of rainfall, causing water shortage for agriculture and home use,” ONA added.
Upon completion, the dam will provide underground water to the people of neighboring villages, as well as for livestock and agricultural activities, Construction Week Online reports.
The dam’s base is about 45 m, and its summit length is 80 m, and the height of the dam with the shoulders is 11 m. Meanwhile, the length of the spillway is 55 m, and the height of the spillway is 7 m, with the width being 5.8 m.
Additionally, the width of the base of the dam is 13m, and the storage capacity of the dam is more than 80,000m3.
Last year, Oman completed construction on a groundwater recharge dam project in the village of Meeha Bani Keum located within Al-Khaboura province.
The $251,950 (OMR97,000) groundwater recharge dam project also included the construction of a building and the road leading to the project.
