Saudi Arabia has adopted a number of strategies and programs to promote sustainable agricultural development and increase the agricultural area, said Ahmad Al-Fares, governor of Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO), on June 14, Saudi Gazette reports.

These different strategies contribute to achieving food security at the national, regional, and international levels and preserving natural and environmental resources, the minister added, noting that they also help formulate the food security strategy and the rural development program.

SAGO governor made the remarks while presiding over a seminar titled “National Dialogue for Sustainable Food Systems in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” which was organized by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, in support of the United Nations Food Systems Summit 2021.

In his speech, Al-Fares stated that the UN Food Systems Summit’s goal is to achieve measurable progress toward achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, raise awareness, and enhance the level of public debate on how to help reform our food systems.

For his part, Undersecretary of Ministry of Environment, Water, & Agriculture Eng. Ahmed Al-Eyada confirmed that Saudi Arabia has taken several important steps to work at all levels of food systems and was able to make remarkable progress toward achieving sustainable development goals.
