What resorts in Turkey are burning

The first is Antalya region, one of the most popular seaside resorts. The town of Side suffered the most from the fire. According to local authorities, a large-scale forest fire broke out in Manavgat, a few kilometers from coastal hotels.

The fire engulfed 1,500 hectares, and the mayor of Antalya (the region’s leading resort town, about 70 kilometers from the fire’s epicenter) said it was the strongest fire he had ever seen in Turkey.

Another popular resort is Marmaris. A fire broke out in a mountain forest near it. Tourists were evacuated from some hotels; officials asked others to pack up and stay closer to the beaches – in case of possible evacuation by sea.

A fire has also been reported near the Bodrum resort. Vacationers from two five-star hotels, which were relatively close to the burning forest, were moved to a safe area.

There was also information about a local forest fire near the town of Gazipash and the airport of the same name near the resort of Alanya.

A subsidiary group of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party called “Children of Fire” claimed responsibility for large-scale forest fires in Turkey.
